Complementary medicine is a set of diagnostic, therapeutic or preventive methods, healthy and natural lifestyles are due to being holistic that are used in parallel with common medicine and to strengthen it all over the world. The purpose of this review study was to investigate of clinical trial studies that report the effects of complementary medicine methods on anxiety and quality of life in cancer patients.
This study is a systematic review with extensive search in PubMed, Scopus, Scholar Google, Science Direct, Magiran databases, and using the keywords complementary medicine, anxiety, quality of life, cancer, neoplasm according to the subject headings Medicine (MeSH) was performed between 2010 and 2020.Then, based on the relevance of the articles to the research topic and the expert opinion of the research group, related articles were selected and reviewed.
The number 2684 articles were found based on keywords, after removing duplicates and based on inclusion criteria, finally 16 studies were evaluated using the jadad quality scale. In the studies, mind and body methods (six studies), manual methods based on the body (four studies), biology-based interventions (one studies), energy therapy (five studies) were evaluated. The results of studies showed that complementary medicine methods are relatively safe and are relatively effective in managing anxiety and quality of life in cancer patients.
The goal of complementary medicine is to improve the level of health and quality of life while increasing life expectancy by using natural approaches and different methods based on clinical and research trials. Therefore, complementary medicine can be used as a low-complication and effective method to reduce anxiety and increase the quality of life in patients.
