INSTRUCTION TO authors
Aims and Scope: Clinical Excellence (CE) is a peer-reviewed journal published biannually by Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, Iran. It is a journal with multidisciplinary scope, relevant to medicine and allied sciences, which publishes review articles and case reports, letters to the editor. The aim of these articles is focusing on continuing self learning for medical staffs and personals. This Journal is approved as “Academic Research Journal” by the Journal Commission of Ministry of Health and Medical Education. JCE is published by the office of the Vice-Chancellor for Education, Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences in Persian full texts and English and Persian abstracts. Full texts are available free as pdf files (http://jce.mazums.ac.ir).
1. Submission: Manuscript must be accompanied by a covering letter to the Editor-in -Chief, including title and author(s) name and declaring that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere and introduce 3 referees. In case the manuscript was earlier submitted to some other Journal and was rejected, the authors must provide full information for proper analysis. Manuscript should be typed double space using Microsoft word with clear margins on both sides. Tables as well as illustrations should be typed and drawn on separate sheets. Do not submit tables as photographs. The figures should be sent in the format of JPEG or GIF which will produce high quality images in the online edition of the journal.
2. Electronic submission: Submission is only acceptable by online at URL : http://jce.mazums.ac.ir
3. The manuscript should include: Title page; Abstract; Introduction; Materials & Methods and Results (for systematic and Meta analysis reviews); Subtitle Comprehensive Topics and Discussion; Conclusion; Acknowledgement and References.
4. The title page: The complete title of the manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, their affiliation, address for correspondence with telephone numbers, e-mail, and Fax number.
5. Abstract: All original articles must accompany a structured abstract up to 250 words. It is not being structured. It is followed by 3 to 5 Keywords. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (Mesh) list of index medicus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html ). Care must be taken to ensure that the abstract reflects the content of the article accurately.
6. Introduction: This should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it have data or conclusions of the study.
7. Narrative Review : There is usually no Method section but could include in end of introduction section.
8. Materials & Methods (for systematic and Meta analysis reviews) : This should include exact methods or observations or experiments. In this section, describe the following: Search strategy, including inclusion and exclusion criteria and screening procedures, List who conducted the search (e.g., independent librarian, librarian associated with author’s institution). Procedures for identification and collection of articles. List databases and other information sources used to identify relevant studies (e.g., hand-searching reference lists and tables of contents, contacting content experts). Approach to appraisal of articles to be included in the review, Quality control/peer review process.
9. Results (for systematic and meta analysis reviews) : It must be presented in the form of text, tables and illustrations. The contents of the tables should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. Long articles may need sub-headings within some sections (especially the Results and Discussion parts) to clarify their contents.
10. Discussion and Conclusion: This should emphasize the present findings and the variations or similarities with other work done in the field by other workers. The detailed data should not be repeated in the results again. Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. It must be mentioned whether the hypothesis mentioned in the article is true, false or no conclusions can be derived.
11. Acknowledgement: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgement section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance and departmental head that only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.
12. Tables and Figures : Tables should be so constructed that they, together with their captions and legends, will be intelligible with minimal reference to the text. They should be numbered (1, 2, 3, etc.) as they appear in the text. All illustrations should bear the author's name, the orientation (top, bottom, etc.) and be numbered accordingly. Photographs must be originals of high quality.
13. References : All manuscripts should be accompanied by a list of relevant references. Reference should be made to locally published studies by doing proper literature search. To minimize errors in the references, author should verify them against the original documents. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. References should be numbered sequentially in the order of their citation in the text and inserted between square brackets, e.g. (1), (6-10). The list of references should follow the order of their citation with complete listing of authors (if 7 or more authors, list the first 6 authors followed by et al.). Only published, "in press" papers and books may be cited in the reference list. Periodical titles should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus.
Example: The Reference should provide the following information as stated in the presented models as follows:
Journals: Russell FD, Coppell AL, Davenport AP. In vitro enzymatic processing of radio labeled big ET-1 in human kidney as a food ingredient. Biochem Pharmacol 1998; 55(5):697-701.

14. Reprints: Three copies the of journal will be sent to the corresponding author free of charge. Additional copies can be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form.
15. Revision : Papers may be returned to authors for modification of the scientific content and/or for shortening and language corrections. Revised version should be sent by electronic word type file to jce@mazums.ac.ir . If a paper that is returned to the authors for modification is not resubmitted within two months, it will be regarded as having been withdrawn and any revised version received subsequently will be treated as a new submision.
16. Proof Reading: Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author to be checked for only typographical errors and other essential small changes. Major alterations to the text can not be accepted at this stage. No changes in the name of the authors is permissible at this stage. Proofs must be returned to the Editor within 5 days of receipt .
17.Abbreviations and symbols : Use only standard abbreviations. Avoid using them in the title and abstract . The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement.
18.Ethical guidelines : Authors should be premised from original journal and authors if they want to use figure or table from another published articles. Also they have mentioned this permission note in them review.
19.Conflicts of interest: Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
20.Page charges: There are no charges for publication in this journal.
21.Copyright : The entire contents of Journal of Clinical Excellence (JCE) are protected under international copyrights. This Journal is for your personal noncommercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, or publish any materials contained on the Journal without the prior written permission of it or the appropriate copyright owner.
22.Peer review process: All manuscripts are considered to be confidential. They are peer-reviewed by at least 3 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editorial Board. The corresponding author is notified of the editor decision to accept, reject, or require modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the criteria set forth in these instructions, then it is assessed by editorial board for final decision and will be scheduled for the next available issue.
23.Disposal of material : Once published, all copies of the manuscript, correspondence and artwork will be held for 6 months before disposal.
