Cochlear implant users have difficulty understanding the spectral and spectral-temporal characteristics of sound. On the other hand, the better abilities of musicians than non-musicians in various fields have been confirmed by neurophysiological evidences and because the functional and structural overlap of speech and music at the sensory and cognitive levels has been shown in studies. In this study, we try to investigate the effects of music-based training on improving the speech and language perception of cochlear implant users.
In recent years, there has been a strong desire to use music-based training to improve speech and language in children with normal hearing and people with communication disorders, including cochlear implant users. Various studies have used approaches that emphasize one of the bottom-up and top-down processes.
Studies show that music-based training can have a facilitating effect on various aspects of speech and language processing. In fact, addressing cognitive competencies through music training along with low-level sensory abilities seems to be essential for the treatment of auditory perception.
