Abstract:   (151 Views)
Different methods can be used to educate deaf and hard-of-hearing children. The purpose of the present study was to review the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and the primary methods of auditory rehabilitation. The present study was a descriptive review research. The research population included Persian and English sources and research literature that were related to the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and the primary methods of auditory rehabilitation. The sampling method was intentional and included 25 articles, theses, or books on the research subject published between 1982 and 2025. Data were collected from IranDoc SID, Magiran, ISC, Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar. The findings showed that various approaches can meet the educational and rehabilitation needs of deaf children. On one side of these communication approaches is the sign approach, and on the other side is the oral approach. Total communication is the result of the two ends of the spectrum: the oral and sign approaches. In addition, sign language and manual alphabet are auxiliary components of the oral and sign approach, respectively. Therefore, for the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing children, attention should be paid to the remaining hearing of the children, their abilities, and providing appropriate rehabilitation counseling services to families.
