Introduction: Since the appropriate quality of parenting is a very important factor in the development and health of children, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of adaptive parenting training on parenting self-efficacy and emotion regulation of mothers with children aged 2 to 8 years.
Method: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of 28 mothers with children aged 2 to 8 years in Tehran who were selected by purposive sampling using inclusion criteria and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (14 in the experimental group and 14 in the control group). The research instruments were the Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale of Domka et al. (1996) and the Emotion Regulation Strategies Scale of Gross and John (2003). The experimental group received the educational program in 6 sessions 60-minute, while the control group did not receive such education. Finally, the data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance using SPSS version 25 software.
Findings: The results of the analysis of covariance showed a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in the post-test phase (p. 0.001). Therefore, it can be said that the adaptive parenting training package was effective in increasing parenting self-efficacy and emotion regulation in mothers.
Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that adaptive parenting training can be effective in increasing mothers' self-efficacy and regulating their emotions. Therefore, it is suggested that adaptive parenting training content be used to increase parenting self-efficacy and improve emotional management of mothers with young children.
