Background and Objective: Like many countries, Iran's health system faces numerous challenges, including increasing health demands, limited resources, and the need to improve health system performance. In recent years, strengthening the social perspective in the health system has become one of the major priorities of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education. However, achieving health socialization requires a clear and evidence-informed roadmap. This study aimed to identify the key dimensions of health socialization and propose practical strategies for implementing Article 11 of the General Health Policies in Iran.
Methods: This policy brief was developed based on a synthesis of discussions presented in the specialized panels of the Fourth National Congress on Social Health Studies, supplemented by expert consultations and review of relevant evidence. The collected information was analyzed to identify the main components, challenges, and strategic recommendations related to health socialization.
Results: The findings highlighted social participation, improvement of health literacy, intersectoral collaboration, social accountability in medical education and research, and the engagement of non-governmental organizations and health charities as the major components of health socialization in Iran. The need for effective mechanisms to enhance public participation, increase health awareness, and allocate resources according to local health needs was also emphasized.
Conclusion: Health socialization can serve as an effective strategy for improving health outcomes, enhancing community participation, and strengthening the performance of the health system. Successful implementation of this approach requires comprehensive planning, promotion of a culture of participation, stronger intersectoral collaboration, and effective utilization of community capacities.
