Background and Objective: The master's program in Community Health Nursing (Public Health Nursing in the Japanese context) plays a critical role in preparing specialized nurses to address community health needs. This study aimed to comparatively analyze the master's curriculum in Community Health Nursing between Iran and Saku University in Japan.
Methods: This descriptive-comparative study used Bereday's comparative model. Data were collected from the official Iranian national curriculum and Saku University's master's program in Community Health Nursing (corresponding to Public Health Nursing in the Japanese context). Data analysis was performed through description, interpretation, juxtaposition, and comparison across the dimensions of goals, structure, content, evaluation, and student admissions.
Results: The Iranian program offers more credits, a broader definition of graduate roles, and a more explicit philosophy and mission. In contrast, Saku University's program emphasizes practical education, flexibility in student admission (academic records, interviews, and motivation letters), community-based practice in rural areas and elderly care, and a stronger focus on international health policy and leadership.
Conclusion: While the Iranian curriculum is more comprehensive in theoretical aspects and role definition, Saku University's program demonstrates strengths in practical training, educational flexibility, and responsiveness to local community needs. It is recommended that the Iranian program incorporate selected successful experiences from Saku University, particularly in admission processes, practical training, and health policy education.
